Domaine Dujac, founded by the great Jacques Seysses, is widely acknowledged as the most famous estate in Morey-Saint-Denis. Jacque’s father Louis was a gastronome in Europe and had a successful biscuit company that was sold to Nabisco. After Jacques inherited the family fortune, he set his sights on Burgundy, where he already had an apprenticeship with Gerard Potel at Pousse d’Or. Jacques had a huge passion for Burgundy and was influenced by many of the greatest growers including Charles Rousseau, Bernard Clair-Daü, Henry Gouges, and Aubert de Villaine. Jacques founded his own Domaine in 1967 and named it ‘the Domaine of Jacques’, or Domaine Dujac. The first vintage was 1968, a notoriously bad year, and all the wines were sold off in bulk. However, 1969 was a different matter altogether and proved just how great the wines could be. Jacques married Rosalind Boswell, a Californian, in 1973 and in 1975 the first of their three children, Jeremy, was born. The Domaine is now in the capable hands of Jeremy who has not only maintained the amazing quality of the wines but has arguably elevated an already brilliant Domaine.
