Cheval Blanc is one of the legendary estates of Bordeaux, with a lineage dating back to the 16th century and a consistent dedication to producing wines of quality. Surprisingly, Saint-Émilion’s most famous estate can easily be mistaken for a Pomerol. Situated near the Pomerol border, adjacent to L’Evangile and La Conseillante on gravel-rich terraces, Cheval Blanc mirrors its Pomerol neighbors by planting Cabernet Franc on well-drained clay and Merlot on gravel soils. The high proportion of Cabernet Franc in the blend is a unique feature, and many say that Cabernet Franc reaches its greatest expression in Cheval’s diverse soils of gravel, clay, sand, sandstone, and iron.
The wine is celebrated for its powerfully exotic bouquet, which delights even in its youth and evolves with mind-boggling complexity as it ages. A favorite among Bordeaux aficionados, the estate’s signature perfume offers a sensory overload of exotic spices, cigar box, menthol, rich black fruit, and minerals. Cheval Blanc stands as one of Bordeaux's most profound and distinctive wines, standing shoulder to shoulder with Pétrus and the First Growths in terms of excellence.
We will explore every vintage from 1970 to 2005, excluding 1991, which was not produced.
